Holy Trinity Hall Ceiling
During the October half term holiday some plasterboard from the original roof space fell down onto the suspended ceiling causing damage. This album gives images of the work done to remove the failed plasterboard and replace the suspended ceiling.
We were grateful that this failure occurred whilst the hall was empty. We took advice from engineers and our Architect and it was felt that, to patch up the damage was not an option, as more plasterboard could come down at any time. The hall was put out of use whilst we gathered quotes from various firms. We consulted our Insurance company, who told us that we could not claim as the damage was as the result of “Wear and Tear”. The P.C.C. chose one of the firms who had quoted for the work. This firm agreed that they could start mid January and the work should take about 3 weeks to complete.
Meanwhile we started exploring the possibility of obtaining grants. The cost would be in the region of £20,000. We have been successful in gaining a grant from the Heworth Ward committee of £6,000 for which we are extremely grateful. However this does mean that we have a shortfall to cover the total cost of the repairs. We hope to set up a electronic giving pathway which we will put onto our website. However, if you should wish to donate to this cause, then please contact us using the e-mail address on the website. The hall is widely used by many organisations. The principal users are our Church of England School who use in on a daily basis for PE. We wish to keep the hall open, as a community space, to be enjoyed by many organisations.
